I was planning to meet with a new friend and check out a new spot at the same time. It was a chilly, overcast Sunday evening and what could be better than tea on a day like that?
It was a short walk from the A/B/C/D train, just past the Magic Johnson theater. As soon as I walked in, I was hit with the wonderful aroma of herbs and spices. The shop was cozy and comfortable. Some random Rick James song was playing softly in the background. There were a good amount of people but I had no problem finding a place to sit. The seating consists of a long bar, connected to the counter, where you place your order. As I was waiting, I received a message from my friend that her train was delayed, so I ordered a pot of Hibiscus Berry tea, sweetened with honey and pulled up my Simply-E app to read Zadie Smith’s newest novel, Swing Time.
There were lots of conversations buzzing around me and I felt a strong sense of community, all while engrossed in my reading. The tea was delicious and the pot filled up my small glass about 4 times. On my last glass, one of the employees, seeing my camera engaged me in welcomed conversation. He shared with me some of his amazing photographs and asked about my goals. The friend that I was there to meet with originally never made it to tea time. It ended up being a blessing in disguise because I made another new friend that day.
If you are a tea or coffee lover or need a nice place to get some work done, check out Serengeti Tea!
